The Mike Ligot Column - Liggie Looks
( 7 items )
Mike discovered soccer as a kid, when he stumbled across an NASL playoff game on TV while searching for Saturday morning cartoons. Although his playing career lasted just one spectacular year of U-13, he’s continued with the game by supporting the Seattle Sounders and attending various matches on his travels. His column will focus on American soccer, with some forays overseas. When he’s not following soccer, the NHL, rugby and sometimes curling (no joke – he used to play!), Mike enjoys the culinary arts, loading his iPod, and dancing Argentine tango.

Born pretty close to Hamburg, Germany, the town with the only team that always played in the first league, football was always one of the biggest parts of my life. I love this game since I was little. Because talent wasn't good enough I became a journalist, covering football. Now I live in L.A. and want to watch MLS growing.

Born in the Bronx, NY (moved to Teaneck, NJ by force at age 13) to Romanian & Hungarian parents that immigrated to the USA, use to attend NY Cosmos games with the family during the glory days of the NASL. A big supporter of the NY Yankees/NY Jets/NY Rangers, re-found his love for Football when the World Cup came to the USA in the summer of 1994 after the NY Rangers won their Stanley Cup and ended 54 years of curses and heartache. Waited two years for Major League Soccer to start and dedicated himself not just to his club Red Bull NY (Formerly NY/NJ MetroStars), but to the continual building of the league and the belief that the USA will win the World Cup and point the finger into the faces of all the Soccer Bashers in the country that we are equal to the other countries of the World who love this great game. Currently working at SNS (Sports News Satillite) feeding highlights to all NBC Affiliates of the USA by watching all sports in the USA or involving American Athletes. Dedicated RBNY reporter for Around The League in 90 Minutes.

John Torres - Women's 2007 World Cup Column
( 2 items )
Born & raised on Chicago’s Southeast side. My first contact with the beautiful game was in the early ‘60s at a lakefront park where Mexican American Sunday league clubs played their matches. I started following club futbol when I watched delayed tape Chivas de Guadalajara matches in 1964 and my first “live” matches were watching Mexico and Mexican club teams play at Soldier Field during the ‘60s & ‘70s. I supported the Chicago Sting and now support the Chicago Fire. I follow the exploits of Newcastle and Torquay across the pond. I’ve coached my daughter and son’s teams in AYSO, recreational leagues, and club teams for the better part of 16 years. My playing prowess you ask? None whatsoever! More of this nonsense at Overlapping Run: http://overlappingrun.blogspot.com
